LOS ANGELES — The 2023 Porsche 911 Carrera T is effectively a 911 with the base Carrera engine but with a few choice mechanical upgrades that are standard or optional on the more powerful and expensive Carrera S.

These upgrades would not otherwise be available on the base vehicle. The Carrera T also goes on a bit of a diet compared to both the base 911 and Carrera S thanks to thinner glass, reduced noise, a smaller, more compact battery, and the lack of a standard rear seat (you might add, however, back can come.)
Great, but why would you want that? If you can stomach the Carrera T's base price of $118,050, including destination, you can probably wink and get a Carrera S with about the same mechanical upgrades for $132,000. Oh, and more power: 443 horsepower versus the 379 you get with the Carrera t-nah, you've got the money, so why settle for less power? more is better.
Carrera T, and its author, are here to tell you that you don't have to. Quite simply, the 911 Carrera's base boxer-6 turbocharged 3.0-liter is a great performance engine and so understated that it seems silly that Porsche would need to sell a version with more flair. Driving on the famous Angeles Crest Highway north of Los Angeles, my driving partner at Press Driving Company turned around and asked, "Are you driving in third right now?" I paused, looked at the transmission and then at the standard T-Seven manual, and replied, "Yeah, guess what. I didn't really need anything else."
