The 2022 GMC Hummer EV Sport defies logic in many ways. It's a pickup that weighs over 9,000 pounds, but will do 0-60 mph in about 3.0 seconds. It seems like something you should be afraid of, but it's also something you want to hear. It's an engineering job to make something go faster, but that's what the EV revolution has brought us.
GMC powers the Hummer as fast as it does with three electric motors — one in the front and two in the back — that combine for 1,000 horsepower and 1,200 pound-feet of torque. All that energy is presented in the form of What's To Freedom (WTF). Your chair starts to squeak. Air suspension lowers you down, and electronic music plays over the speakers to accompany your audio equipment. Starting this big truck is a game every time, but thanks to its high ride height and off-road chops, taking it down is also something you like. That is, assuming the lane is wide enough for the hummer. Those rear tires keep the Hummer from having too much fun when you test the truck's handling...but who cares.
Our scanner is a 1st Edition version, which means it comes with every option you can think of. So, it costs $110,295. For the amount of performance and potential here, that number seems surprisingly accurate. It's also perfect for Hummer's status as a super truck, giving you everything you've ever wanted to go anywhere in one place.
Editor-in-Chief Greg Magliver - The Hummer EV is the most stellar vehicle I've tested in a long time. Literally. It is huge and attracts the attention it deserves. The Hummer design is still there, especially the grille, headlights and flared fenders. It looks the part. For $110,000, it should have something, too, and the 1 Edition offers Super Cruise, Watts to Freedom and Crab Walk, not to mention GMC's MultiPro tailgate and retractable roof.
It feels fast, as you'd expect something with 1,000 hp to feel, and it's surprisingly manageable. I do curb walks on my street, bragging rights, going around things and pleasing the neighbors. It is a standard four-wheel drive, which works like many other vehicles, allowing the Hummer to turn easily and confidently. I got about 60 kilometers from the charging station in 20 minutes, as fast as possible, but it was good. Overall, I enjoyed my time in the Hummer EV, and it feels like a true halo car for GMC.
Customer Jeremy Korzeniewski - What's to Freedom is bullshit. I strapped myself into the GMC Hummer EV, used a few knobs and switches to put the beastly electric truck into proper head-throw mode, stepped on the curb, and drove off. I didn't feel the loss in my stomach that I remember in any other car. It could be Cedar Point park.
The other truck, well, it's crazy too. But I mean it as a compliment. It's big, heavy, powerful, and when the going gets tough, it's probably unstoppable. I've also dropped the suspension to its highest setting, and the ground clearance under the flat EV platform is enormous. Curbwalk style is fun, sure, but it's also helpful. I laid out a rough road using the sticks I found on the ground, and thanks to the trick of the four-wheel strike, I laid out the road to hang with an ability I did not expect.
